Everything you find on this website grew from a 2016 research project by Rebecca Ly and Dr James Humberstone. They presented the first version of their content analysis of software for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) in music education at the International Society for Music Education (ISME) conference in Glasgow that year. The paper was not selected for publication in the conference proceedings, and was not submitted to a journal because James and Rebecca felt that the music software field moved so fast that they needed to update their data.
When the Covid-19 pandemic swept across the world in early 2020, Rebecca suggested to James that this work might be very helpful to teachers at a time when many were teaching remotely for the first time. They decided to share it online, and to begin their analysis a third time – still very much intending to publish it when the time is right.
In the meantime, you can read contents from that first research paper here, and you can explore the updated data on other pages of this website.
